Hey! I’m Michelle Alexander.

I’m an actor and writer based between Los Angeles and Vancouver.

As a storyteller my primary focus is female driven narratives that make you look at the world a little differently, weird you out in a way you’ll never forget, and hopefully make you laugh. I write mostly dramedy and comedy-horror and often act in my own work.

As an actor I can currently be seen as ‘Lola Melloncamp’ - the sardonic, cat-loving, jewelry shop owner on Private Eyes (ION), and the ‘Pizzouza Skipper’ - the tough Belter-speaking ship captain on The Expanse (Amazon/Syfy). Other notable credits include the Recurring role of ‘Laura’ - Seth’s (Kal Penn) assistant on Designated Survivor (ABC), the Series Regular role of ‘Alison’ - the serial killer med student in Vincenzo Natali’s Darknet** (Netflix US/UK/CAN), appearing alongside Joey King in the supernatural horror feature, Wish Upon (Broad Green Pictures), Guest starring in Suits (USA Network), the Emmy-winning Orphan Black (Space/BBC America), and The Strain (FX).

As a writer I won the AMP Accelerator competition at the 2016 Banff World Media Festival (alongside writing partner Sophia Fabiilli and Shaftesbury Entertainment), was named a finalist in the International Pitch Competition at the 2017 Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, and wrote for the second season of Haunted Case Files.

I’m currently in post-production for my latest short film Blow Out which I wrote and star in, directed by Daniel David Stewart (Catch 22 on Hulu). I’m also in pre-production for Credit Love, a short about one woman’s romantic relationship with her credit card.

Before transitioning to film and TV I began my career as a theatre actor, director and the Associate Artistic Director of Nightwood Theatre (Canada’s National Women’s Theatre). I’ve been a part of more Shakespeare plays than I can count on my fingers, both as an actor and a director, directed award-winning comedies (including The Philanderess -Second City Toronto Mainstage), and spent years with Nightwood Theatre advocating for women’s stories and providing mentorship to emerging female artists.

Originally I’m from Vancouver Island, Canada and now split my time between Los Angeles and Vancouver, I love to run (half-marathons and all that), travel whenever I can (Cambodia, Italy, France, Finland… I get around. Currently my sights are set on Japan, so if anyone wants to hire me to work there I’m IN), and I’m still trying to figure out how to bake a decent gluten-free pumpkin muffin (my current strategy includes adding more chocolate chips).

I love meeting new collaborators, whether you’re a director, fellow-writer, producer, actor or just a cool person with great ideas! Get in touch. Let’s make things.

onwards and upwards,

M
